About GSDC - German Shepherd Dog Confederation

The German Shepherd Dog Confederation (GSDC) is a registered organization in India and has been affiliated with the WUSV, Germany, since 1995. The Club is committed to promoting the welfare, preservation, and overall well-being of the German Shepherd breed in India. In addition, the GSDC certifies and issues pedigrees in accordance with WUSV guidelines and SV standards.

The GSDC actively encourages German Shepherd breeders to adopt ethical breeding practices and maintain high standards for the breed. To support education, awareness, and breed development, the Club will regularly conduct seminars, trials, temperament tests, and organize breed shows across the country through its authorized Chapters.

Looking ahead, the GSDC aims to progressively implement WUSV rules and guidelines best suited to Indian conditions, including the organization of an Annual Championship Show (Sieger Show), with the objective of elevating breed standard and promote responsible ownership and breeding practices nationwide.

About WUSV

(World union of German Shepherd Associations)

• In May 1968 European Union of German Shepherd Association (EUSV) was formed with 11 countries.
• After S.V, it was formed to associate the countries in and outside Europe.
• In 1974/75 the WUSV was formed.
• All the breed loving countries are affiliated with by WUSV which in turn is an offshoot of SV.
• Since then, it has grown to 96 members Association in 89 countries.
• The aim of the WUSV is to achieve uniform breed standards with its members via a ‘BREED HARMONISATION PROGRAM’.

About German Shepherd Breed

Amongst all recognised canine breeds, the German Shepherd Dog remains the definitive standard of functional excellence. Conceived in Germany in 1899 by Captain Max von Stephanitz, it was developed not for exhibition, but as the ideal utility dog. His enduring principle—"Utility is the true criterion of beauty"—continues to govern responsible breeding worldwide.

Unlike breeds selected primarily for appearance, the German Shepherd was scientifically developed to unite anatomical efficiency, stable temperament, superior intelligence, endurance and uncompromising working ability. These qualities remain the foundation of the SV Breed Standard, recognised internationally through the FCI and implemented by WUSV member organisations.

Every aspect of the breed's anatomy serves a functional purpose. Its balanced structure, efficient gait, firm topline and correct angulation enable exceptional endurance and economical movement. Structural exaggeration or cosmetic breeding inevitably compromises function and is inconsistent with the breed's original purpose.

Equally indispensable is character. The ideal German Shepherd displays confidence, sound nerves, courage, resilience, social stability and unwavering reliability. Its remarkable intelligence, adaptability and trainability have established it as the world's foremost working dog in police, military, search and rescue, detection, assistance and service roles. The breed's future depends upon scientifically responsible breeding founded upon health, temperament, genetic integrity and working aptitude. Objective evaluation of structure, movement, character and health remains essential to preserving the qualities envisioned by Max von Stephanitz more than a century ago.

The German Shepherd Dog is not merely admired for its appearance; it is respected for its purpose. Its beauty is the natural consequence of functional excellence, making it the enduring international benchmark of canine utility and responsible breeding.
